2011 Audi R8 Spyder Manual Review

Posted on: February 6, 2012 | In Audi

Review of Audi R8 SpyderThe 2011 Audi R8 Spyder Manual is an impressive convertible supercar available with a choice of two super powerful engines. For such a fast, agile supercar, Audi did a great job making this Spyder comfortable, stylish and easy to drive every day. The hefty price tag gets a buyer everything wonderful that is typical of Audi, for slightly less than a similar Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet and just over half the cost of Lamborghini’s Gallardo Spyder. It’s looks are an obvious talking point, as they are just as exotic, and possibly more, than the higher-end supercars the R8 aspires to.

Though the R8 Spyder is also available in an automatic version of both the 4.2 liter and 5.2 liter engines, only the manual versions are reviewed here. Enter your ZIP code into our FREE insurance comparison tool above to save money on car insurance!

Pricing

Car and Driver lists trim level prices of the 2011 Audi R8 Spyder Manual as follows:

  • R8 Manual Quattro Spyder 4.2 liter- $131,950
  • R8 Manual Quattro Spyder 5.2 liter- $166,950

Engine and Performance

The Audi’s R8 Spyder’s manual engine options include a 4.2 liter 6-speed V8 and a 5.2 liter 6-speed with a V10. The 4.2 liter makesReview of Audi R8 Spyder a net 430 horsepower, and 317 lb/ft of torque between 4500 and 6000 RPMs. This all-wheel-drive engine is equipped with 4-wheel ABS and ventilated disc brakes in front and rear.

The 5.2 liter V10 is impressive for many reasons, one being that it is also used in the Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder. Of course, the Lambo’s engine makes more horsepower and costs a good deal more. This super-quick engine makes 525 horse at 8,000 RPMs, and 391 lb/ft of torque at 6,500 RPMs.

The R8 Spyder is fitted with the Quattro all-wheel drive system, helping keep this car stuck to the road like glue without being too harsh.

Comfort and Convenience

The R8 Spyder comes standard with 19-inch wheels, automatic rear spoiler, black glossy rear engine air vents, soft top, LED head lights and brake lights, rain-sensing wipers and automatic dimming folding side mirrors.

The interior features heated, leather seats, center console with storage and cupholders, navigation system, leather trim, and storage compartments. These standard Audi features easily make this sports car a great daily-driver option.

The R8 Spyder also comes equipped with a parking system with a rear camera, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, Bluetooth capability and Audi’s MMI (Multi Media Interface), which provides navigation, entertainment, information and music when a driver feels the urge. Also included is SiriusXM Satellite Radio. The 4.2 liter does not come with the parking assistance or the Ban & Olufsen sound system.

Safety

Honestly, buyers contemplating a supercar like the R8 Spyder are most likely not looking for a cushy, safe family car. They know the risks of racing at speeds so fast it is like flying. The R8 does come with standard safety features of most Audis, though. These include 4-wheel ABS, engine immobilizer, self-leveling headlamps, post-collision safety system and stability and traction control. Dual front side-mounted air bags with head protection as well as head restraint whiplash protections systems load up the R8 Spyder with even more protection.

If a buyer really is looking at the R8 Spyder for a family car, it is nice to know that there are child seat anchors and a passenger-side air bag deactivation switch.

Available Colors

This beautiful specimen of a supercar is available in several sublime colors. These include Brilliant Red, Daytona Gray Pearl Effect, Ibis White, Ice Silver Metallic, Jet Blue Metallic, Lava Gray Pearl Effect, Phantom Black Pearl Effect and Teak Brown Metallic.

Interior options are Black or Titanium Gray leather/alcantara, or Black, Lunar Silver, Luxor Beige, Nougat Brown, Red or Titanium Gray premium leather.

Roof color options are Black, Brown or Red.

Fuel Efficiency

The R8 Spyder makes about 11 mpg city and 20 mpg highway. If a driver really takes the Spyder out on the wild side, it will show in

Review of Audi R8 Spyderhorrible fuel economy. If a driver is going to burn up some fuel, the Audi R8 Spyder is the car to do it with.

Drivers’ Opinions and Competitors

The R8 Spyder’s top competitors are Aston Martin DB9 Volante, Ferrari F430 Spider, Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder, Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG and Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet. Though the R8 Spyder shares an engine with the Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, it is a slightly less powerful one. Some reviewers on AOL Autos’ website say that if they were to pay for a supercar of this caliber, they would want the best possible. There is no denying the Lamborghini is more powerful and faster. With that said, the R8 Spyder is super quick and handles like a dream. For the money, this supercar is a great deal.

Most drivers do not like the touchy R-tronic model, and prefer the standard manual. Some even say that, as a daily driver, there is not much difference between the V10 and the V8. The price difference between the 4.2 liter and the 5.2 liter is enormous and not justifiable in every case. Suppliers for Audi Not Performing Well

Posted on: January 25, 2011 | In Audi

The CEO of Audi has stated that the company is still not where they want to be in terms of supply that they have located throughout the world. In fact, the company states that all around the world they only have a supply of cars that would last around 14 days, not the usual 30 that they aim for at dealers. The question is, why is this occurring?

Audi is blaming its suppliers for the shortage of materials to build the cars, stating that those companies that supply the car maker did not come out of the financial crisis in 2009 as well as Audi did. Because their suppliers are not able to perform at the same level of Audi, the car maker is paying for the problem. Many wonder if this is going to affect their sales for the rest of the year?

The auto maker does believe that they will continue to see a shortage of supplies throughout 2011 for at least the next few months, until their suppliers are able to get back into the groove of things. However, that has not stopped Audi from setting to some extremely high sales goals in the United States and other parts of the world for the upcoming years. They plan to sell around 160,000 vehicles in the United States by 2015, which is an increase of around 50,000 cars from the numbers that they currently move in the US. They also plan to dominate the world market even more with the introduction of hybrid cars to first, the European market, then the US and China in the following two years.

However, will these kind of goals be attainable with suppliers dwindling in their performance? That is the question that most people are asking themselves. With thee suppliers not able to perform, it does hamper Audi slightly. However, they are now focusing their time on the hybrid vehicles, thus they may be using a new set of suppliers altogether.

2011 Audi S3

Posted on: October 23, 2010 | In Audi

The Audi S3 is produced by the German manufacturer, Audi. The Audi S3 is a hot hatch, or high performance version, of the Audi A3 hatchback. Although they are similar in appearance, the Audi S3 offers a lot more than the A3. Audi S3 versions of first and second generation A3 models have been manufactured. The Audi S3 has been manufactured since 1999, with the second generation having been produced since 2006.

The second generation of the Audi S3 offers better performance than the first generation. A number of updates were made to the S3, so that the newer version with its more powerful engine and four wheel drive can reach speeds of 62 miles per hour or 100 kilometers per hour in 5.5 seconds.

The S3 is also available as a five door version, known as the Sportback, which is slightly more expensive. Paying extra for the Sportback will prove useful for drivers who regularly carry passengers in the back seat, however, as the convenience will be worth the extra cost.

Audi A2

Posted on: | In Audi

The Audi A2 is built to the same high quality as drivers have come to expect from the German manufacturer, Audi, and it is priced to match. The A2 tends to be among the more expensive cars of its type, but it is well designed and built to a higher specification than many of its competitors.

The Audi A2 is particularly popular with drivers who are downsizing from a larger or more expensive car. Many people buy the A2 after driving a larger model from the Audi range, in order to continue benefiting from the superior quality they have come to expect from Audi while enjoying a more compact vehicle. The A2 is ideal for people who are looking for a compact car that will be affordable to run, which is still a high quality vehicle.

The A2 has been constructed from aluminum, which means that its weight has been minimized. The A2 can weigh up to one third less than cars of a similar size, simply because of its aluminum body. This reduction is weight ensures that the A2 is easy to drive and that its fuel consumption is very economical. The A2 was the winner of the 2005 EcoRun race for economical driving. The use of aluminum in the construction of the Audi A2 has also allowed more precision in the engineering, so that the panels are more tightly fitted and there is more effective noise suppression. Since the body of the A2 is constructed from aluminum, it is completely recyclable. Together with the excellent fuel economy, this makes the A2 one of the more environmentally friendly cars.

The most popular version of the A2 is the SE specification. This adds climate control to the alloy wheels, four electric windows and the air bags (front and side) which are provided with the standard A2 specification. The Sport is a more expensive version of the A2, but it does not come with climate control. Instead, it offers larger, 17 inch, alloys, with sports seats and a suspension that is firmer, but less comfortable.

The Audi A2 is generally considered a reliable vehicle. The excellence with which the Audi A2 has been built means that it is likely to run well and be cheap to maintain. It comes with antilock braking, air bags and traction control as standard. The height of the seat can be adjusted, as can the position of the steering wheel. This, together with the compact size of the car makes it a good choice for young learner drivers.

The A2 handles well and provides adequate space for passengers and luggage. The interior of the A2 is smart, comparable to the more expensive Audi TT and A8 models.

The A2 provides enough room to easily seat four adults and their luggage, although some drivers may feel that they need more space if they regularly drive a car full of passengers. Since there are only two seats, rather than three, in the rear of the car, the A3 does provide each passenger with more space. There is also more legroom for passengers in the rear seat since the floor is lower than is usual for a car of this size. Riding in the A2 will therefore be a more comfortable experience for adult passengers. There is plenty of space for carrying luggage in the A2. It provides significantly more room for luggage than the Audi A3. The rear seat can be removed, while the trunk is more spacious than that of a Ford Focus or an A-class Mercedes. The floor of the trunk in the A2 can be slid out of the way to allow the space underneath to be used, enlarging the trunk.

One unique feature of the A2 is the service hatch or panel. Situated in the usual position of the radiator grill, this panel allows the filling points for fluids to be accessed without having to open the bonnet. The bonnet can be unlatched and removed completely if work needs to be done on the engine, but the service panel can be used instead for maintenance.

Some drivers may find that the windscreen pillars can obstruct their vision, particularly when driving around corners, but this is a common problem when switching to a smaller hatchback vehicle from a larger car and is not unique to the Audi A2.

The side sills are fairly high, which can make it awkward to get in and out of the A2. It is probably not suitable for drivers who often carry older passengers or people with limited mobility who may have difficulty entering and exiting the vehicle.

The A2 was originally produced between 1999 and 2005. Audi is now planning to create a new version of the A2, which will be powered by electricity and which could be adapted to the driver's specific needs through the downloading of app like programs to unlock different specifications. They are still in the research stage.

Many people who drive the A2 have fallen in love with the vehicle's high quality build, fuel economy and ease of driving. The A2 is an expensive car for its size, partly due to the use of aluminum in its construction. The quality of the build, the elegance of the interior and the economical fuel consumption make up for the price, however.

2011 Audi A2 Review

The 2011 audi a2 combines generous space with a good driving performance and low fuel consumption. The 3.0-liter power plant on The 2011 audi a2 models, however, is almost 50 pounds lighter thanks to its extensive use of aluminum. At 220 horsepower, this second engine is strong – really strong. The result? A constant reminder that the greatest joy is the journey itself. Other 2011 audi a2 performance features include the five-speed Tiptronic transmission, which calls upon more than 200 dynamic shift programs to deliver the action of a five-speed manual without a clutch, and the four-link front suspension, which reduces unsprung weight. Also, at the core of every Audi performance sheet is five-valve technology that lowers emissions and raises driver exhilaration across the board.

Audi A2

The 2011 audi a2 also offers patented aluminum four-link front suspension with the "virtual steering axis" that keeps things smooth and comfortable. In terms of looks, the cars offer powerful tail ends, elegant cut lines, high belt lines, and front ends that are distinctly Audi A2.they offer wood or fiberglass trim, as well as dual- zone climate control, ergonomic seats, and, of course, second- generation Symphony stereos whose sound is second to none. A 2011 audi a2 body kit would only enhance features like these. What's more, with additional Audi accessories, you will want to take a number of 2011 audi a2 pictures and give them out to your friends.

Its lines make the A2 the car with the best air resistance figures in its category. In combination with the car's progressive light alloy construction, the two engine variations are particularly characterised by agility and economy. To 100 km, the power units consume 6.0 and 4.3 litres respectively. This makes for motoring fun with a sense of environmental responsibility at the same time. Now that numerous teams have worked on the development of the A2 for around 5 years, the idea has finally become reality. Take a look behind the scenes on this website. Get to know the many faces and stories behind the A2 – in the "making of" module or in the categories of design, technology and efficiency as particular values represented by the A2.

2011 Audi A2

Discover the roots of the2011 audi a2 – after all, that's progress too! The 3.2-liter version will be offered in Europe with Audi's Dynamic Shift Gearbox, which recently debuted on the TT V6. Boasting two clutches, it changes gear in 0.02 seconds at the prod of a paddle and without a pause in the power delivery. Audi U.S. was unable to confirm that DSG will be offered here, but it should take the plunge.

Just one petrol engine, a direct injection 2.0-liter, was available for us to test at the launch. Boasting 148 hp and 147 lb-ft of torque, Audi says it propels the A3 from zero to 60 mph in 9.1 seconds and on to 131 mph. Also on the petrol menu in Europe is a 101-bhp 1.6-liter, and the range-topping 3.2-liter V6 with 247 bhp. The entry-level model in the U.S. is likely to feature Audi's familiar 1.8t five cylinder. 2011 audi a2 has been called the definitive sports hatchback. And with its choice of 1.6, 1.8, 1.8 Turbo or 1.9Tdi engines, and a list of standard equipment that includes electric front windows, alloy wheels, ABS and front and side air bags, the Audi A3 isn't just one of the most stylish hatchbacks around. It's also one of the best equipped.

2011 Audi TT Coupe

Posted on: October 10, 2010 | In Audi

The 2011 Audi Tt Coupe has more rounded edges than any other car in its class, from air dam to fender flares to taillights, and the resulting shape looks funny to some, totally graceful to others. Front and rear overhangs are exceptionally short. Your goofy neighbor might ask which end is the front, . But certainly the low roofline of The 2011 Audi Tt Coupe , raking from its center to the rear deck, conveys a feeling of speed. Our 225-horsepower Coupe was equipped with the optional five-spoke forged alloy wheels , which in our opinion don’t compliment the car nearly as well as the standard cast alloy six-spoke wheels.

The compact nature of The 2011 Audi Tt Coupe called for a transverse engine layout. This complicated things for the quattro, which needs to distribute torque between the front and rear axles. It was solved with a sophisticated and extremely fast-reacting electro-hydraulic system, the first such method of torque distribution in any Audi. The overall result is that torque levels between the front and rear wheels are controlled by a number of parameters, including wheel speeds, engine speed and torque.

The 2011 Audi Tt Coupe was designed from the outset to take into account the lack of a roof, and it boasts a number of integral chassis-stiffening measures. These include a meaty dashboard mount and windshield frame, even thicker steel side sills, and strengthened A-pillars that contribute to excellent rollover protection.

The 2011 Audi Tt Coupe comes with either a manual-operated top or an optional power unit activated by a single button. A tonneau cover keeps the lines clean when the top is down, while an innovative, electrically powered glass windbreak, shaped to mimic the curves of the rollbars, slides up behind the passengers to minimize buffeting. We’re talking the world’s best-fitting black Italian leather bucket seats. The shape is very Recaro-like, with extra bolstering for the thighs and torso, to keep you in place during hard cornering. Then there is that perfect small-diameter three-spoke leather steering wheel with no control functions on it.

The black leather shift knob has its six-speed pattern displayed sharply on the top in aluminum, and the boot around the very short lever is held down with an eye-catching brushed aluminum ring. The seats, steering wheel and shift lever say: This car is meant for driving. World’s greatest dead pedal confirms it. Gauges like a racecar ? except maybe for the cherry red numbers.

It’s that brushed aluminum trim that makes The 2011 Audi Tt Coupe interior so stylish. It’s everywhere, it seems, but somehow there’s not too much of it: Brushed aluminum cupholders. Brushed aluminum rings around the climate control vents (they rotate to direct air), brushed aluminum audio system cover, brushed aluminum door grab handles, brushed aluminum cover to the glovebox (big enough to hold the owner’s manual, and that’s about it).

2011 Audi TT Roadster

Posted on: | In Audi

The 2011 Audi TT Roadster is a luxury sports car available in three levels of trim based on engine output. Base 180-horsepower models come standard with a long list of features that includes automatic climate control, leather seats, a CD player, 16-inch wheels, xenon headlights and a manual top on roadster versions. Midgrade 225-hp models add 17-inch wheels and a power-operated top on roadsters. Top-of-the-line 250-hp versions add minor exterior enhancements, a modified exhaust system and an aluminum shifter cover. Options include a Bose sound system, heated seats, a navigation system, an Alcantara steering wheel and 18-inch wheels and tires.

Three engines are available depending on whether you choose front- or all-wheel drive. Front-wheel-drive coupes and roadsters get a 1.8-liter turbocharged inline four that generates 180 hp and 173 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic is standard; a six-speed manual is optional. Quattro all-wheel-drive versions get a 225-hp version of the same engine along with a standard six-speed manual (a six-speed automatic is optional). New this year is a 250-horsepower, 3.2-liter V6 (236 lb-ft of torque) coupled to Audi’s six-speed DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) automanual tranny. This transmission offers the convenience of an automatic along with the ability to perform quick manual shifts with steering wheel-mounted paddles. Quattro is standard on 3.2 models.

All 2011 Audi Tt Roadster come with four-wheel antilock disc brakes and electronic stability control. Side and head air bags are standard, and Audi contends that the protection level of the roadster in a rollover is equal to that of the coupe. Crash testing has been minimal, though the TT did receive a five-star side-impact rating from the NHTSA. Aluminum and leather dominate a decidedly industrial theme that blends retro and modern design elements into one enticing package. A standard power glass windblocker ensures that chilly nights along the beach are pleasant for roadster owners. Trunk capacity ranges from 6.4 cubic feet in quattro roadsters to 13.8 cubes in front-drive coupes.

Driven back to back with its competitors, The 2011 Audi Tt Roadster hefty curb weight and soft suspension are immediately evident, but the added horsepower of the 3.2-liter model helps keep it competitive. On the open road, the car soaks up bumps, providing a blissfully secure ride. Pick up the pace and The 2011 Audi Tt Roadster will wallow on dips, but body roll is nicely controlled in all but the tightest of turns. Overall, Audi has engineered an excellent compromise between comfort and performance, but for the most part, this is a cruiser not a bruiser.

Customers can now order the new top top-of-the range 2011 Audi Tt Roadster models with six-cylinder engine and completely new transmission technology. The combination of the high-torque 3.2-litre engine with 184 kW / 250 bhp and innovative sports gearbox emphasizes the dynamic drive qualities of the four-wheel-drive TT in a unique way. The source of power is the compact 3.2-litre V6 engine. Technical details such as continuously adjustable inlet and exhaust camshafts and the variable intake manifold give the six-cylinder engine superior torque and power output, coupled with low emissions. It delivers a broad peak-torque range with a maximum value of 320 Nm between 2800 and 3200 rpm and, in conjunction with the ultra-rapid, precise control technology of the new twin-clutch transmission, reacts extraordinarily agilely and spontaneously to movements of the accelerator pedal.

2011 Audi S4 Avant

Posted on: October 7, 2010 | In Audi

The 2011 Audi S4 Avant looks as good in the parking lot as it does on the road. As adaptable as it is accommodating, it lets you be all you want to be. You can be seen anywhere in this car, yet its accent is on personality not poshness, style not status.  And it offers a wealth of accessories as well as the highest standards of comfort, safety and handling ease. Its permanent quattro four-wheel drive and sport-tuned high-performance suspension ensure that this power can be converted into maximum forward propulsion and driving pleasure.

The car’s equipment, which covers virtually every requirement even in the standard version, is also in keeping with the exclusive nature of this high-performance vehicle: 18-inch wheels and Recaro sports seats at front and rear are just two examples of a standard specification that is exceptional, even for a car in the premium segment. The new 2011 2011 Audi S4 Avant , like its predecessor, is available in both saloon and Avant versions.

The further refined V8 engine with chain drive at the rear and a displacement of 4.2 litres delivers 253 kW (344 bhp) and 410 Nm of torque. It consequently sets clear benchmarks in the B segment: a benchmark for a supreme and even development of power resulting from the large swept volume, and a benchmark for unmistakeable dynamic handling. The power-to-weight ratio of the new generation has been further improved compared with the predecessor: this factor, which says so much about a car’s sporting character, has been improved from 5.8 to just 4.8 kilograms per horsepower. The eight-cylinder engine’s thrust thus enables The 2011 Audi S4 Avant with its new 6?speed manual gearbox to complete the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds. It takes just 20.6 seconds to reach 200 km/h, whilst the top speed is a governed 250 km/h.

The2011 Audi S4 Avant is the only car in its class to have quattro permanent four-wheel drive. It can therefore convert its engine output into propulsive power most efficiently at all times and reach new heights of superiority in practice through the handling potential of its aluminium chassis. Steering with an extremely direct ratio means that The 2011 Audi S4 Avant can be guided absolutely precisely around all kinds of corners. In other words, driving pleasure in the purest sense, on the motorway as well as on challenging mountain passes. The 2011 2011 Audi S4 Avant also offers other qualities that have already become a well-known feature of the S models with the four-ring badge. Just like its predecessor of the same name and the larger S6 and S8, the S4 is the top sporting version in its respective model line, and not only in terms of power. Its equipment specification and top-quality.

There’s nothing that looks out of place. Even Audi’s four-ring logo looks as if it were designed for this car.A close look at the Audi’s exterior reveals the tight fit of panels and doors, contributing to a richer look and reduced wind noise. Dual exhaust tailpipes grace the rears of all 2011 Audi S6 models, differing for each. The taillights have cylindrical back-up lights and turn signals with red outer lenses that flash amber. Up front The 2011 Audi S6 has clear glass headlamps, with high-intensity Xenon headlamps optional on all 2011 Audi S6 models.

2011 Audi S6 Avant

Posted on: | In Audi

The 2011 Audi S6 Avant features double grille with flush-fitted headlamps. Projector-beam fog lights lie below the well-integrated front bumper. The shoulder line rises to the rear, giving it a croched silhouette. Its well-proportioned lines radiate elegance and agility. A line at the front of the car dives down sort of like that of a Rolls Royce Corniche. Audi calls it an expressive design with coupe-like lines. It’s expressive in an understated Audi way and people will know you know business when you fill their mirrors.

Nearly 17 feet in length, The 2011 Audi S6 Avant is longer than the Mercedes S-Class, BMW 745Li and 760Li. The wheelbase of The 2011 Audi S6 Avant stretches to 121.1 inches. That’s 3 inches longer than the wheelbase of the previous-generation A8 L, essentially identical to that of the Mercedes S-Class, nearly as long as the BMW 745Li and 760Li, and substantially longer than that of the Cadillac DeVille. (The wheelbase is the distance between the front wheels and the rear wheels. A longer wheelbase tends to offer more passenger room and increased stability.) The Audi is slightly wider than the Mercedes and comparable to the BMW. The 2011 2011 Audi S6 Avant rear doors are long, allowing for convenient passenger entry and exit.

Front and rear doors open extra wide. The outside door handles are attractive, but are the lever style, which we find harder to use than the kind you can put your hand through, such as those on a Mercedes. Seven-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels with 255/55R17 tires come standard and provide excellent handling and ride comfort and superb grip in the wet. Optional 18- and 19- inch wheels and tires are available that visually fill the wheel wells and provide a surprisingly smooth ride in spite of their short sidewalls. The taillights fit flush with the clean rear design. Turn signals use LED technology and feature side repeater lamps to signal drivers alongside of your intentions. Dual exhaust pokes from below the beautifully integrated rear bumper.

The new space-frame design uses fewer parts, fewer joints for increased rigidity. That increased rigidity eliminates flex, giving The 2011 Audi S6 Avant the feeling of being carved from a single block of bar-stock aluminum. The body is also made of aluminum. The 2011 2011 Audi S6 Avant comes loaded with features and its interior is comfortable and luxurious.

The interior is a clean, classic design. A choice of leather and wood trim combinations ensures a touch of individuality. Handsome Valcona leather seat upholstery comes standard with attractive Alcantara (suede-like) door inserts. Aluminum trim gives the cabin a sporty flair.

The seats are supportive and comfortable and adjust 16 ways. A memory feature remembers all the settings for four different drivers (or moods), including climate controls.
