BMW: New Concept Car to Become Reality
With all of the cars coming out that are fuel efficient and good for the environment, every manufacturer is rushing to develop a concept car that they can begin to produce to attract these types of consumers. BMW is no exception to this rule. Despite being one of the highest regarded brands in terms of luxury and style, the company has announced that they will be taking the Vision Efficient Dynamics concept car that they showed at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show, and putting it into production and hope to have it to major markets by 2013, including North America.
BMW is saying that the car will go far above and beyond anything else that they have offered in their lineup. Which says a lot about the soon to be car. According to research, the car will go from zero to sixty-two in 4.8 seconds, with a top speed of 155 miles per hour. This is similar to the M3 model. However, the biggest difference is that the new concept car will get around 63 miles per gallon when city and highway mileage is combined. Which will make it one for the most fuel efficient models on the market and is sure to attract consumers.
BMW is warning that the concept car seen at the auto show will go through several updates, changes and improvements before they are ready to make it available to the world. As they want to make sure that they are in fact creating a truly different car that will turn the heads of all those that are present.
The most interesting fact about the project, which is still being referred to as the Vision Efficient Dynamics project, no definite name for the vehicle yet, is that it has three power sources that keep the car running. The first is the aluminum engine that provides direct power to the rear wheel via a gearbox. The other two are brushless electric motors that powers the front and rear wheels. The motors can all work together to give the car around 300 horsepower, however it can also work independently.
BMW has said that there will be no leasing option on this car, and instead will only be for sale. The price has not yet been determined, however with the advanced technology that the car is demonstrating, it is estimated that the car will cost more than the 760Li. Despite the price, many people will be begging for one of these, given the unique technology and the gas mileage that the car gets.
