BP To Start Drilling Again

The BP oil disaster was one that will go down in history as one of the most challenging events that took place in our history. Many people blame the BP oil spill for the repercussions that later followed with the high gas prices, whether this is deserved or not. However, with the recent news that BP plans to start drilling again in the Gulf of Mexico this summer, some people are now anticipating the worse to happen.

For those that are worried, they should be aware that the US is making the company meet some very strict guidelines for the oil that they are drilling and their processes that they will use upon the drill. For example, they are not allowed to do any exploratory drilling and they are to allow the US regulators access to their rigs at any point during the time that they are present there drilling in order to make sure that the safety regulations are being followed to the exact letter.

Why is the government suddenly allowing BP, who has proven that they do not take any safety standards into mind when they are drilling, the ability to start drilling again? Most people are chalking this up to the fact that the US government has been urged to lessen our dependency upon foreign oil in an effort to lower gas prices that are hitting over the four dollar mark for a gallon of gas at places all over the country.

However, BP is still being under suspicion. In fact, it seems that the company may be getting charged with manslaughter due to the lives that were lost when the rig exploded in 2010. If this goes through, which is still up in air right now, the company could face ruin that they could not simply walk away from this time. Only time will tell what is going to arise from this situation, though everyone can hope for the best.
