Car Company of the Future: BYD

For the past three years, there has been one company at the Detroit Auto Show that never gets much recognition. However, the name alone should attract some people, and this year a few people become interested. The car company goes by the initials BYD. This stands for Build Your Dreams, and the car company is a huge dominating company in China. However, they still have not crossed the waters to become a dominant player in the United States.

However, the company seems content to stay with their Chinese market, stating that China is their main concern right now. But, the future could be full of BYD automobiles. Technically, BYD started off as a battery producer, which does give them an advantage in some areas of the automotive industry. For example, BYD plans to develop only those hybrid and fully electric cars when they do make the move to the United States. Most professionals say this would be a failing idea since the other car companies are already dominating the green car space.

But, BYD can offer some advantages. Since they did start off with making batteries, they have the equipment and the knowledge to make their own batteries for these hybrid and electric cars. This is the most expensive part of any hybrid or electric car. Thus, BYD could offer such cars at a lower price to American consumers. Something that most people would be thankful for, given the high prices that these cars are going for nowadays.

The big question is when will we see BYD bring a model line up to the United States? As of right now, they are content with staying in China and dominating there. However, they have expressed much interest in coming to the United States, otherwise why would they bother with displaying their ideas at the Detroit Auto Show? In a few years, more than likely BYD will become a brand that is present in the US auto market.
