Chrysler in Japan

Chrysler is putting a lot of their faith into the new Grand Cherokee that they are hoping takes off in Japan and improves their sales. They have estimated that if everything goes as planned, they could see sales grow by around twenty one percent, which would help the image of Chrysler tremendously in here in the United States. In 2009, the Cherokee only sold around 88 vehicles, which is extremely low for any automaker in Japan. The reason is that they were still considered a risky investment due to the bankruptcy that they had filed.

So now, Chrysler has to make sure that those in Japan know that they have the product that they need and can have it to them without being placed on wait list. Plus, since they have redesigned the Cherokee they are hoping that people are going to like it better and see that the Chrysler brand has come a long way from a few years ago. In 2010, the brand did receive some increase in sales, however, this was mainly due to the Japanese government offering scrap incentives, and because of this Chrysler saw a huge increase in the number of Patriots that were being demanded. The Patriot is still the number one model in Japan.

In addition to making their vehicles newly redesigned, the company is looking to partner up with other companies in order to sell their vehicles at more lots. Years ago, the company was associated with Honda and benefited greatly from getting to sell their vehicles on their lots, however, currently they are partnered with no one and they are feeling the effects. The company could choose to increase their number of lots, however, that takes much more money to invest than what the company is really wanting to spend as they struggle to get themselves out of debt. Either way, the company is putting a lot of stock in the Cherokee striking it big in Japan.
