Daimler and Renault Extend Partnership to Electric Batteries

With the big push from several car manufactures in regard to making more electric cars comes the dilemma of the batteries for these electric cars. If there are going to be more production of electric cars, then there is going to be a need for better, longer lasting batteries or more recharging stations.

At this time Renault SA and Daimler are working to make an extension on the partnership to making batteries for the electric cars. Currently, these two automakers are currently talking about a battery tie-up. In regard to the terminology battery tie-up, this means that the company Renault SA will enter into Daimler's battery venture with Li-Tec. At this time, only Daimler is in a joint venture with Evonik.

Renault SA and Daimler are talking about the technical requirements for this extension in their partnership. They will soon begin talks with the Evonik, who is a chemical group. Renault is also in partnership with Nissan, who is a car maker in Japan, and works with Daimler on cars such as Twingo and Smart.

Daimler and Renault SA are not the only two car makers that are making a joint venture with a chemical group to develop the electric car batteries. This is being done in order to meet the environmental regulations plus attract more fuel conscious car owners.

Another car maker group that is working to develop batteries for electric cars are General Motors Co, Chrysler, and Ford Motor Co are working with a Samsung and Robert Bosch partnership.

Daimler is also expressing an interest in bringing in the Japanese electronics group NEC into its Li-Tech venture. NEC already has a lithium-ion joint venture with Nissan.

It just remains to be seen as to which car maker will make the right connect with the chemical group and be able to produce the best, long lasting lithium battery for the new cars of the future, the electric car.
