Electric Cars Rule at Detroit Auto Show

The Detroit Auto Show was riddled with electric concept cars offered by big names such as Mercedes-Benz and small companies such as China's BYD. However, though electric cars are the greenest technology that we have right now, the major car companies are warning that battery powered cars are not the right fit for everyone out there.

Why is that? Distance is a problem for many people as well as the small size of these cars. Take into consideration the Chevrolet Volt that won top honors at the show with the Car of the Year award. It will comfortable seat around four, five is a squeeze. For those who have more than three children, this car is an unrealistic choice for them. However, the automakers that are worried about public reception of the vehicles are not necessarily concentrating on these factors, most are afraid that people are hyping these vehicles up to the point that they are going to disappoint any of those who drive them.

This is why automakers are not putting everything that they have in developing endless battery powered cars. However, most are planning to follow up their electric cars with others. Nissan plans to have an entire line of battery powered cars that will follow the Leaf, based off of the same platform. The technology of these cars is amazing and it gives many hope for a brighter future. However, those worried about the technology should rest assure since the automakers do realize that they still need to be looking for alternatives in order to fit everyone's life style.
