New Ford Explorer: Mixed Feelings

The new Ford Explorer that is built on a car platform is the quickest selling Ford that they have in their showrooms these days. Consumers cannot seem to get enough of this vehicle, making it an instant success for the automaker. However, 'Consumer Reports' is one of the top sources that people turn to for their information on their new vehicles are not exactly reporting thrilling results for the car based SUV. In fact, they are ranking it pretty low to the bottom with seventeenth place, among nineteen vehicles that were included in the ratings that were similar. So what does 'Consumer Reports' not like about the vehicle? 

They note that the engine is rather loud when driving, the handling is less than what they expected and they overall say that the driving position of the vehicle is flawed. They also state that the My Ford Touch is anything, but helpful and says that it is actually a distraction that they cannot stand. However, if people thought that was bad, they go on to state several other things that they are finding wrong with the vehicle. The six speed automatic is not the smoothest shifting out there, and they also pointed out that the transmission seems to want to hang onto the gears before shifting, not matter what model that the person is in. 

However, these comments do not seem to be undermining the consumers opinion of the vehicle. More and more people are still buying these, so perhaps the report that 'Consumer Reports' has mentioned is not going to affect the automaker too much. Ford has said that they plan to use any criticism that is given from anyone in order to improve the model for next year. Which is the only way that the automaker can respond to the criticism that they have received. However, from the viewpoint of most consumers, the Ford Explorer is one of the vehicles that are a must see.
