Ford Wants To Make Pay Competitive
Ford is set to go into contract talks with the UAW to discuss what they are paying its employees. Right now, Ford says that including benefits, they pay on average $58 per hour to those that work at their plants. However, many people are wondering whether Ford will try to lower the hourly rates that they are paying or what exactly will happen? Right now, it is unclear what they are going to do, however, Ford has said that they want to remain competitive in what they pay their employees in order to make sure that they keep their employees. On their website, they are stating many other automakers and what they are paying their employees and how Ford wants to make sure that they are providing enough money to make people want to work with them.
The problem is that so many Ford workers have given up so much already. For example, in order to avoid bankruptcy, the company required that workers give you paid vacation time, bonuses and other things that many of the workers had come to depend on in order to have their way of life the way that they had hoped. However, they gave these up in order to help the company. This is one of the things that the UAW are going to want to reward. After all, what other place of business would workers give up things in order to keep the business going?
Right now it would seem that foreign automakers are offering on average fifty dollars an hour in pay and benefits. Ford is beating them by eight dollars, however, they agree that this is not enough. Something else must be done in order to make sure that they are giving employees the best of the best so as to attract more employees and keep them for longer. It will definitely be a long road ahead for the company and the UAW to decide on what to do.
