Ford Police Interceptor Making Waves

At the Los Angeles Sheriff Department testing of the new police cruiser models, Ford walked away the winner. The new Ford Police Interceptor was the fastest car on the track, beating out General Motors Caprice and Chrysler's Dodge Charger Pursuit. 

The Police Interceptor offer many safety features for police officers, which gives it more appeal to many law enforcement officials. For example, side air bags for added protection in the event of a crash, as well as the car being reinforced so that in the event that an accident does occur, the car will hold up better against the force. In addition, the car doors are equipped to handle bullet rounds as well as certain degrees of heat to protect officers should they ever need this option. Perhaps the most notable safety feature about the Police Interceptor is that there are sensors in the seats that measure the weight of the person, when the car takes this information, it also calculates the speed and just how hard an object is hit before the air bags are allowed to deploy so that these air bags do not deploy too hard or too soft. 

The Police Interceptor is being offered in the form of a sedan or a utility vehicle in order to meet the needs that police have. There are going to be two available engines that are slightly smaller than past engines in the Interceptor, however, performance is not affected. The first engine to choose from is the 3.5 Liter Flex Fuel V6 engine that is the standard option. This engine delivers more horsepower than the current V8 engine, despite having two less cylinders. The other option is a 3.5 liter, Eco Boost V6 engine. 

Ford has predicted that the car will get around seventeen miles per gallon, which is much better than past models. The cars and SUV are also designed with all wheel drive, which is something new to the police cruiser line.
