Future of Light Trucks

For those that are wondering what the future holds for the automotive industry, then they are not alone. One of the ideas for the future is the possibility of having lighter trucks that are based on more of a car platform than anything. Which would mean that these 'light trucks' would not be able to do what today's light trucks are able to handle in terms of towing and hauling. The idea is being brought up to the higher price of gasoline and the new stricter CAFÉ laws that may go into affect.

In this market, people are targeting a light truck that is offered in Australia by Holden's Commodore Ute. For those that are interested in what this truck looks like, they should consider the El Camino that was once offered by Chevrolet, which is basically what this truck is. The Commodore Ute is still being considered as something that the US automakers would import in allowing people to have a truck without having to deal with the cost associated with these trucks in terms of fuel needed to run the light truck.

However, there is nothing concrete yet. Most of those that are considering this are looking at the possibility of gas prices rising even more. Though, analysts have predicted that they may rise slightly, but we should not see a dramatic jump as we have seen this year thus far. Whether or not this happens, only time will tell. But, if the Commodore Ute did come to the US, are people going to be interested?

The Chevrolet El Camino was looked at as a classic car that is widely collectible. However, they were considered very dangerous since a rear end accident could cause the car to become engulfed in flames. Only time will tell if the Ute would propose the same problems and hesitations for the consumer market. Though, not many people are going to like not having the power that they have now.
