GM Under Investigation by NHTSA

General Motors is under investigation by federal regulator for SUV's that they manufactured, starting in 2005 and ending in 2007. There have been many reports of these SUV's stalling, and have even been the blame for one accident thus far that people are finding. What is causing this stalling? According to those that are investigating, they believe that the fuel gages are not performing accurately and because of this the person may not have as much fuel as the vehicle is stating.

So which GM SUVs are being included in this investigation? There are many vehicles that are being included on the list including the Buick Rainers (05 – 07), the Chevrolet Trailblazer 360's (05-07), the Chevy Trailblazers EXT 370's (05 and 06), GM Envoy XL (05 and 06), and the Saab 9-7Xs (05 – 07). There is still no word just how many vehicles that this investigation is going to total. However, the National Highway of Traffic Safety Administration has stated that they are investigating around 668 complaints that they have received in the past year with stalling issues.

One complaint said that the SUV that they were driving was hit from behind after stalling on a highway ramp when trying to enter the highway. The person that made this complaint said that the fuel gage was showing that they had plenty of fuel.

GM has yet to stay anything about this investigation, though NHTSA has said that the company is going along with the investigation and cooperating. Will this effect GM in the long run? This is hard to say since the company has built up their reputation in recent months to become one of the best selling companies out there, however, this could put a bit of a damper on things when it comes to people trusting the manufacturer with the vehicles that they are purchasing. However, the service that they show once the investigation is over is really going to be what people are going to notice.
