Huge BMW Recall
BMW, the German automaker, announced a big recall according to the latest ABC news. The prestigious automaker is recalling around 130,000 vehicles voluntarily. This includes vehicles that have a twin turbo engine. The models involved are vehicles from 2007-2010. The affected series include the 335i, 535i, 135i, X6, the xDrive35i Coupes and the Z4 Roadster (2009-10). The problem seems to be related to a failure in the fuel pump and this relates in mechanical terms to a reduction in engine performance. 2008 X-5 sports vehicles that use fuel pumps with low pressure will be recalled also – about 20,000 of them.
The company will notify BMW owners of the recall by mail, so they can schedule an appointment to service their vehicle and fix the problem. These luxurious and sleek-looking sport convertibles and sedans will get their new fuel pumps to be able to be in the street again strutting their looks.
In the past, ABC news was investigating BMW owner’s allegations that their vehicles were behaving in an unusual way – shaking, hesitating, turning all the lights on, backfiring, and loosing engine power when accelerating. When ABC continued its investigation, it seems that many complaints from several BMW owners had been filed and little had been done. The complaints addressed owners of 2007-2009 BMW’s with similar car issues, and the models had the N54 turbo charged engine.
The National Traffic Safety Administration investigated BMW, but since it was determined that the fuel pump malfunction did not pose any major risk to safety, the ball was dropped, and the case was closed. Now, after ABC’s investigation, this latest recall is announced by BMW, and customer’s needs are going to be addressed. Although some lawsuits had been taking place against BMW, the issue was not highly known and many of the lawsuits were settled.
Now, it is expected that the prestigious automaker will do good towards its loyal customers and fix the problem in the affected models. However, this is something to be seen and certainly worth following through in the next months.
