Jeep Proposes Diesel Run Jeep Vehicles

Jeep has made the announcement that they are considering offering diesel powered Jeeps sometimes in the next three years. For example, the Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee, in which the CEO, Mike Manley is maintaining would make perfect sense for the automaker. Though, he does warn that these engines do cost more than the traditional gas engine. But, the advantages of doing so are going to be even more evidence within the next few years as the emissions standards become almost duplicate between Europe and the United States.

However, given the fact that diesel engines increase the price of a car by around $3,000, is it really a strategy in which the company should go with? Consider the fact that Jeep, owned by Chrysler, is just now getting its footing back after the recession and bankruptcy that nearly took the entire auto industry down with it. It would seem that they would be wanting to produce those vehicles that consumers are going to actually buy, instead of striving to produce something that would be nice, but not realistic.

It is the time of more fuel efficient vehicles. They would more than likely benefit much more from improving their fuel efficiency on the vehicles that they have in order to give consumers something that is really going to help their wallets at the pump. Which points out another flaw in the diesel plan. Diesel is more expensive than gas, what person wants to pay more for the diesel vehicle and the fuel to run it? It is a nice idea to have Jeep's that are ran by diesel, and they are the perfect fit for such means. However, thinking realistically, it seems that this would be a misallocation of funding and would be something that the consumer market would just not get behind and actually purchase. Though, only time will tell if Jeep will actually go through with the plan or not.
