Mazda Changes Engines

It seems like the price of gas is determining just what type of car that we buy and drive, which are the smaller, more fuel efficient cars. The car companies are working hard to give the consumers just the type of cars they want to buy, even going to far as to overhaul some of their engines. Mazda is one car manufacture who is doing this. They are doing this by going from a one point five liter engine down to a one point three liter engine, letting Mazda boast of a fifty percent miles per gallon gain.

The first engine that appeared was the two point zero liter four cylinder engine that claims to deliver forty miles per gallon when ii was in the Mazda3. Now Mazda is trying the one point three liter engine in the Mazda2, which they hope will give them the fifty percent fuel efficiency gain.

This new engine is point two liters smaller than the current Mazda2 United States spec engine. This new one point three liter engine is only producing eighty three lean horsepower and the feet of torque is the same as the horsepower. When this engine was tested in a Japanese cycle test, it was revealed to get seventy miles per gallon. Using the same test, the one point five liter engine only got forty six miles per gallon. If you use the Japanese tests and compare them, you can see that between the two engines you had an approximate increase of fifty two percent.

Now that Mazda has accomplished their goal, are they going to actually, but the one point three liter engine in the Mazda2 and make it available for sale in the United States? Since this smaller engine uses a start and stop technology in which to get this increase in mileage, it is highly unlikely that the cars sold in the United States will ever have this engine put inside.
