Three Men Charged at Chicago Auto Show
The Chicago Auto Show was home to many new unveils by automakers. It was also home to a crime that has resulted in three men getting arrested. These three men caused around $30,000 in damage to seven Toyota's that were being premiered at the Chicago Auto Show.
The three men did some massive damage to the vehicles, they slashed the seats and tore up the interiors of the RAV4, Prius, Land Cruiser, two Tundras, and the Lexus ES 350. The three men were caught while trying to damage a Toyota Camry with razor blades and flathead screwdriver.
The product specialist at the show noticed that there seemed to be damage to the vehicles that were being displayed and notified security. They were caught within the day. However, Toyota says that this act of random crime is not going to stop them from leaving their vehicles open for all to see at future auto shows. They state that every car maker goes through a bit of time when they have incidents such as this.
The three men have told police that the reason for their behavior is because they were tired of American jobs being taken overseas. In their mind, tearing up the vehicles would show their dissatisfaction. However, the problem with their plan is that the cars that they did tear up, out of all of them, only three are produced overseas, the Lexus, Prius, and Land Cruiser. The Toyota that they were damaging is produced in Kentucky, the Tundra is built in Texas, while the RAV4 is built in Ontario.
The men are being charged with one count of felony criminal damage to property. And more than likely will appear on future websites and television shows as an example of dumb criminals. Since they did choose to leash their plan at an auto show with tight security and after everything, still did not target the right kind of vehicles.
