Mercury To Be Gone By December
For November, Mercury will be posting some amazing sales numbers as this month was the month in which they had to choose to make changes to their lots or get out of the business per Ford's request. Many Mercury dealers have decided to simply get out while they can. Which has led many dealers to report that they moved new cars to their used lots in order to sell them faster.
What does this mean for those looking to buy a Mercury? A great deal. However, Mercury is going to be pressured to sell these vehicles as soon as possible since they have already reported to Ford that the vehicles were sold. They did this so that they could get the cash settlement check by the end of this year instead of having to wait for it. This is the new final pay system that Ford has set up to push the sales of Mercury in which the dealer gets paid ahead of time for the vehicle and then can offer it used at a lower price.
Ford announced early this year that they would do away with Mercury by the last of December 2010. According to recent figures, there are under 10,000 new Mercury's on lots across the United States that are waiting to be sold. And more than likely these cars will utilize the final pay system. Ford expect to be sold out of Mercury vehicles by the middle of December if sales keep going as good as they are right now.
The reason for the dismissal of Mercury is not entirely clear, however, Ford is developing better fuel mileage vehicles, so they could be wanting to devote more time to this cause as this seems to be the route in which most people are heading. Whatever the reason, the ending of Mercury is the end of a legacy that had a good run.
