Parts Shortages Improving
With the tsunami and earthquake behind them, Japan is working hard to make sure that the parts are there for the rest of the auto market and that their automakers are able to produce the cars that they need to bring their companies back into the game. However, according to Toyota, there are still thirty parts that are in short supply. Since the disaster hit, Toyota has been working to get things back into order, however, it was hard with electricity being out and many workers being unable to get to the plants that were badly damaged to the point that people could not even work in them with the current safety standards in place.
Toyota has said that they are working to make sure that these thirty parts are acquired before long so that they do not have to suffer from even more profit loss. Thus far, they are expecting that this year they will see profits decrease by around 30%. They are contributing this to the fact that the yen has lost some of its value, as well as the fact that the disasters have damaged the whole operation.
They are also planning to speed up the delivery of new cars to the world. Right now, in Japan alone it is taking two to three months to get a new car. However, that is a huge improvement over not being able to deliver anything at all. Though, the idea of speeding this up is not going to come easily as most plants are still functioning at 70% capacity while the parts are still in shortage. Though, they have increased production in some other plants around the world in an effort to regain their position in the auto market.
Other automakers that are stationed in Japan are dealing with the same problems as Toyota, and are coming up with similar solutions to help the situation. There has been no time frame set as to how long it will take everything to get back to normal, however, most people think another few months would be adequate timing.
