Review of 2011 Chevrolet Cruze
Chevrolet has introduced the new Cruze this year that is replacing the Cobalt that they have produced for the past few years. However, though the Cruze is replacing the Cobalt, when it comes down to it they are not very similar. The Cobalt was not a big seller for the company, though it looks like the Cruze may change this tradition since many people are purchasing these for many reasons.
The Cruze is the first of the small car segment for Chevrolet to offer an engine that is good for the size of the car. Many times in the past, Chevrolet included these big engines in these small cars, and this was not what people were wanting. However, the Cruze is now offering a 1.8 liter four cylinder engine that does not include turbo, or the sportier option which includes a 1.4 liter turbo engine. The choice is up to the person, but it is clear that both engine offerings are going to be appealing to those that are looking for small cars. With the smaller engine in the small car comes gas mileage that most people are going to feel comfortable with even when the price of gas rises. On the highway, the Cruze is supposed to get around 36 miles per gallon, while offering 26 miles per gallon in the city. And with two different transmission options, including manual and automatic, most people are finding that the Cruze is fitting in with what they want in a car.
Performance wise, people re not going to be disappointed. In testing, the car went from zero to sixty in approximately 9.6 seconds, which is about average for this type of car in the class that it is in. Handling wise, people are going to find that it is worlds away from the awful handling of the Cobalt. It is able to take curves with some speed and still stick to the road, thanks to the car being low to the ground. Those that have test drove this car have said that it handles more like a sport car than what they had anticipated. The ride is rather smooth since the shock system does absorb a lot of the rough roads that the Cruze may come across.
One of the features about the Cruze that has many people talking is the fact that it has a huge trunk size, which measures around 15 cubic square feet. An average of three feet larger than what the other cars in the same class is offering. Something that those with families are going to find great. The back seat leaves a little to be desired since it was not designed with tall people in mind. Thus, those that are tall are going to find it slightly uncomfortable to ride back here. However, those that are in the front are going to find the interior stylish and roomy at the same time.
Overall, the Cruze has definitely put Chevrolet back into the running the small car segment. With a spacious trunk, good performance and handling, with an engine that is meant for small cars, they are going to find that it fits all their needs.
