Toyota Warns North American Workers: Prepare for Shutdowns
Toyota has informed its North America employees and dealerships that the chances of having a slow down of vehicles is becoming more and more realistic. The company sent out a memo to all Toyota employees for them to start planning and be ready should such a thing occur. The reason that the shortage is now affecting the company is due to dwindling supplies in Japan, since the Earthquake hit they have been unable to get to work to most of their supply plants.
However, the company did say that right now everything looks fine. They have been allowed to reopen in Japan and they are allowing parts that they are making to be shipped out to North America. However, they are warning that this may not be enough to keep up with what North American plants really need in order to make the cars that people want.
Those that work for Toyota point out to the public that Toyota is not saying for a fact that these lay offs and shut downs are going to happen, and if they do they are not sure just for how long these problems will persist. Most people are hoping that given that most of the supplier plants are reopened and up and running that they will not have any problems, however, that is unrealistic since it is going to take a while to get things back to normal. However, they are just wanting to prepare us for anything in order to make sure that we are all ready for the worse.
Toyota seems to be really concerned about the electrical components and rubber that is used in Toyota vehicles since this seems to be the supplies that they are running out of, despite the supplies of these parts that they keep in holding for such occasions. Only time will tell, but those that work for Toyota should be preparing for the worse.
